The Chairman on the closing of the transfer window...

After a busy day of phone calls, negotiations and deals that were both struck and called off, Phil Wallace offered some insight into the goings on during Deadline Day at Stevenage FC.

"As usual everyone was on standby until 11pm. We did a couple early, bringing in a big man up top (Kyle Wootton) and pace out wide (Charlie Wakefield), which we are really pleased with.

"Not everything comes off though. We planned to bring in a central midfielder but after receiving a six figure bid from Blackpool for Tom Pett, personal terms couldn't be agreed and the deal didn’t happen.

"Because of that we had to pull out of talks to sign anybody else as our budget is carefully allocated.

"It is like a domino effect on Deadline Day – sometimes it is frustrating for everyone involved, but it definitely adds excitement and interest to the game."
