Excerpts from the Chairman's programme notes...
- On three points to all but guarantee safety…
“Last Saturday saw us take all three points at Newport and we can now start planning for next season in the reasonable expectation that we will be playing League Two football again next season.
“I don’t like thinking like that and I don’t ever want to be in this position again as it goes against everything I stand for.
“We worked too hard for too many years to win Football League status and I don’t enjoy being in the bottom half of the table.
“We may have a smaller budget than most, but we’ve always had that and we’ve always accepted that we have to over achieve.
“Actually, it’s fun to over achieve and since money is no guarantee of success, there’s no reason why a squad with a modest budget - but high on organisation and desire - can’t win this league and have the cup success we crave.”
- On facing Mansfield…
“Our opponents today invested heavily in management and players last summer and are now having to regroup and rebuild with a new manager. That’s never easy and their results have been unpredictable.
“They are outside of the play-off places as we go into this game and I know they’d see tonight as a chance to get back into a top 7 place.
“Unfortunately, our new Manager and our re-motivated team will have something to say about that, so it should be an exciting contest.”
- On North Stand delays…
“Off the pitch we have had some delays forced upon us on the new North Stand and we are running about one month behind our initial schedule.
“As long as we get reasonable weather in April and May we should have the basic structure completed in July and open in September. Once we get going I will bring you up to date on this.”
