Excerpts from the Chairman's Programme Notes...

  • On the week off & Saturday’s game…

“This is the first game for a while, due to going out of the FA Cup in the First Round. It is strange how much you miss the game on a Saturday, but we are back tomorrow and ready to take on Lincoln, with quite a few Boro old boys expected to be in their starting 11.

“Our last game against top of the table MK Dons saw us come away with the three points. If we have any hopes or expectations of promotion this season, this is what we must do – beat the teams above us – so no doubt we will approach the game today with the same intensity as we did MK Dons and hope the result goes the same way. “

  • On the big picture…

“As we approach the half-way stage of the season, I am happy being in the mix. We haven’t had the luxury of building over a couple of years as our opponents today have done – we have had to use trial and error over months, not years, to find our strengths and weaknesses, but the fact that we have improved as we have gone along is testament to our summer recruitment and the hard work being done behind the scenes.

“I am disappointed we are not able to rely on any cup income this season to boost our chances of promotion, but I have been here before and we will find a way to stay competitive all season. There are not many clubs in any division that have the diversity of income that we have, so once we crack the attendance income, we can start to climb the pyramid. That is why it is so important for all our fans to bring someone along to a game.”

  • On the North Stand…

“Moving away from league action, the latest news on the North Stand finally offers a glimmer of light. As I write UK Power have informed us that the new power station equipment will be delivered during the coming week and work will start on completing the relocation of the substation the following week. If all goes well, we are hoping to get back on site when we return after New Year.

“Hopefully, during the second half of the season our fans will start to see the stand being erected and our target is to try and open before the end of the season. Back to the match – a big crowd, a crucial game, both teams needing the 3 points. We are set for a great game so get behind our lads and let’s see if we can claim all 3 points today.”
