New signing Johnny Goddard talks us through his introduction to Stevenage...

  • Goddard was relieved to finally get the deal done…

“Yeah it is a relief and I am excited to be here, it has been something that has taken a bit longer than maybe it should have done.

"But now to get it over the line is a real relief and I am very happy to be here."

  • A fresh start for the new signing…

“It is and I think that is what I need, it has been a period where I have had the opportunity now to go on and push myself at a fresh club and a fresh challenge for myself.

“After I spoke to the manager here and the people that work at the club, it was somewhere where I really wanted to be a part of and they have a clear project and a clear plan.

“Obviously we need to get some wins short term, but long term it is something I really want to be a part of and hopefully I can do well here."

  • How the deal came about…

“Stevenage have known me for a while, it has been stop-start for me this year at Swindon after having a decent season last year in League One.

“This year I have not quite pushed on like I would have liked to, so Stevenage were aware that I was available and when you feel wanted by a club it makes you really want to go and play for that team and that manager.

“So it was a sense for me about getting the move done, like I said now that it is all wrapped up I can not wait to start tomorrow."

  • The gaffer and the players have impressed Johnny…

“We have got some good players here at the club, we should probably be doing better than where we are in the league.

“He has got a clear philosophy, there is a lot of experience in the changing room as well as good young players and they have got a real good mix.

“Hopefully I can contribute and bring something to the changing room and we can get some results and push up the league.

“I am an attacking player, I like to try and get on the ball as much as I can and try and create things and score goals.

“But like any player I need to work hard, so I will be giving it everything that I have got when I am on the pitch for Stevenage and like I said hopefully can contribute with a few goals and assists as well."

  • Johnny is excited to get going...

"I feel good, it has been a while since I had a regular run in a side, so it is up to me as a professional to stay sharp.

“I feel like I have done that, Swindon looked after me even though I was not playing and I am still fit.

“So for me, it is about hitting the ground running, there are no excuses. I am ready to do that and hopefully that starts at the weekend against Accrington, which is a big game for the club."

  •  Johnny’s message to the fans…

“Get behind the boys, I was at the game last night and if we changed one or two things, like I said there are some good players here, it is a real good club and people that I have spoke to who have played here before or here at the minute, only have good things to say about Stevenage.

"So we are part of it together and hopefully we can still do well this year and get some good results."
