Arriva sponsors Stevenage FC Academy talents with unlimited free travel to help them get to training...

Arriva Southern Counties has chosen three young Stevenage FC Academy college stars to be gifted with unlimited free travel to help them get to football training.

The talented boys, Niall Murray, 18, Aidan Fennelly, 17, (pictured) and Bradley Collins, 16, (pictured) have been given tickets at the value of £880 each so they can benefit from unlimited travel on any Arriva bus in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

The gift will help them get to and from football training, as well as providing them with travel to and from school - and will no doubt be ideal for socialising as well.

The sponsorships form part of Arriva’s core brand pillars, one of which is identifying and nurturing local talent in the areas in which they operate.

Craig Taylor, marketing manager at Arriva Southern Counties, commented: “We wanted to give something back to the local talent and we thought these tickets would be a great way to help some of the Stevenage FC stars get to training without having to worry about transport costs.

“Their football training is obviously important to them, and so it’s important to us. We hope the boys will get good use out of the tickets and that it helps them get around in the local area when they need to.”

Speaking about the difference the ticket has made to his daily life, Bradley said: “Having the free bus pass is great because I’m saving so much money now while still being able to get around when I need to.

“Before Arriva chose to help, I was struggling to get to college and training but now my attendance has gone up and I’m getting all my work done. It’s really helped me out a lot and made a big difference.”

Aiden added: “I’ve got four brothers, which doesn’t work out cheap for my parents when we’re all trying to get around. Receiving the bus pass has helped so much, as I use the service up to four times a day. It works out that I’m saving around £28 a week and an average of £1,300 a year!”

Glenn Quirke, Academy Operations Manager at Stevenage FC, commented “We are grateful for the support from Arriva Southern Counties. These passes help relieve our student athletes of financial pressures, allowing them to fully focus on their education and football. We look forward to a long and successful partnership encouraging more and more young men to study and stay in football."
