After spending some time out of the team, summer-signing John Hunt was back last Saturday at Cheltenham as Boro picked up their seventh league win of the campaign...

The 28-year-old left-back talks about his return to the side, a strong desire for progression and Saturday’s upcoming game with Oldham.

Speaking about the recent success at Cheltenham, Hunt expressed his delight both personally and as a team.

“It has been a long time since I started a game but once I knew I was playing I looked forward to it and I am made up that we got the three points.

“We played well. We did a job on them and did what the manager asked us to do. We had a lead at half-time and we were very comfortable from there on.”

Hunt’s attitude cannot be questioned after an up-and-down start to his life at the Lamex, and the Liverpool lad says life has taught him how to deal with this.

“I just stick to what I have always been brought up on, working hard.

“Every day I make sure I do what the gaffer wants me to do to push back into the team and be ready for the chance, and once you get that (chance) you have to take it.”

Not one to rest on his laurels, Hunt backs his team to keep their sights on the bigger picture.

“We are always striving for more and better and, even though we won on Saturday, we still want to improve and take that into this Saturday.

“When we look back we think we could be higher (in the table) which is a good thing. We are not settling on where we are just yet because we know there is a long way to go I the season and we have a lot more to offer.”

This Saturday, Boro face Oldham for the first time since January 2014, and last season’s League 1 side will be no easy task, Hunt insists.

“I know a few of the players there and they are a good side but there is never an easy game in this league.

“We have to focus on our game and hopefully we can take three points.”
