Video & Quotes from the boss following the Checkatrade defeat...

  • On a sobering evening...

“It is very disappointing. We are patched up, we have got a few knocks in the first team awe had to put a team out there tonight. We didn’t do very well, did we? It is learning, there are a lot of young players there and it is a big learning curve.

“I said to them, we don’t want to have a big gap between the first team and the rest and it appears that way now. The first XI have been doing very well, above expectation, doing fantastic in the league and what worries me is if we have one or two knocks, some of those young players need to step up to the plate. They need to be better than that and it is a big learning curve for them tonight.

  • On expecting better...

“This competition is going to throw up results like that. You can tell the difference, they have got very, very experienced players on a lot of money and we know that but we still should have done better. It is not very good for the football club, for me as a manager and it is not very good for the badge. Whichever team I put out, even if I put out our U18s, I expect better.

  • On remaining even-keeled...

“This is what this competition is for. For those players to make those mistakes in those types of games, rather than league games.

“I never get carried away. I am never too high when we win, I am never too low when we lose. I try and stay level and look at the process.

“We beat Swansea 5-0 last time (in the competition) then we lost against Cambridge and Yeovil. You don’t get too carried away with these games and turn it into something it is not.”
