  • Onto the game...

Four points from the last two games has seen Stevenage get back on track following succesive defeats to Yeovil and Cambridge. A win against Macclesfield last time at home was backed up with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Notts County last weekend.

Despite coming back from behind on three occasions, the lingering feeling from the dressing room was one of frustration after the final whistle as the team finished the game with plenty in the tank, taking it to the opposition but just unable to force through a winner.

Two wins and a draw from Stevenage's first four home games represent a decent start to life at the Lamex, but Dino Maamria and the boys will be desperate to improve on that record for the Mariner's visit on Saturday.

It has been another difficult start to the season for Grimsby, winning only one of their opening eight games, losing five. That one win did come on the road though, away at Macclesfield in their second game of the campaign.

A busy summer of recuritment brought about optimism during the off-season, but life back in the rigours of Sky Bet League Two has once again proved a struggle for the Mariners.

  • View from the camp...

Stevenage boss, Dino Maamria:

"It is too early to judge anybody at this time in the season. Grimsby can say we are in a fortunate position where we are, we have picked up 12 points whilst learning.

"Grimsby have struggled to do that. They have got a new manager, more or less a new squad as well, it is not easy. I feel for them, I feel for him. They have got a new team, he is building and he is finding it difficult. It is always a dangerous opponent because they will be determined more than ever not to lose their fifth game on the bounce."

Grimsby boss, Michael Jolley:

"It will be a difficult match. Stevenage are an experienced, physical, and powerful League Two team, with a good manager who knows his way around this level.

“So, like every match, it’s a match we need to stand up to. We need to be prepared to try and match them physically and mentally, and try and impose ourselves on the game.

“He’s stabilised the situation there, and I’ve known Dino quite a few years – he’s a good person, and somebody who I respect, and he’s done a good job there.”

Things have improved since our first meeting with Grimsby, back in August 2016 when a 5-2 defeat at Blundell Park meant for a humiliating introduction to the Mariners.

Since then Stevenage are three unbeaten, including two wins out of two at home, the most recent of these being a 3-1 win last season.
