Video & Quotes from Newts following his decisive goal against Macclesfield...
- On being back on the scoresheet…
“Hopefully the start of what is to come. It has been frustrating for me, pre-season and the start of the season I have been trying to play catch up, and then I finally get back and get a freak injury in the ribs. It is nice to finally be back starting and get the first one out the way and hopefully carry on.
“Obviously, with last week’s frustration, it was about getting the win and pushing on from here. The lads have dug in today and defended brilliantly, and thankfully we got the goal and held on.”
- On the goal itself…
“Joel’s deliveries are unbelievable. Every ball he is putting in the box is spot on. We have all got our runs and thankfully it was mine to get across the front post and got it straight on my head.
“Competition for places is what breeds success. Everyone is fighting to get the shirt and it will bring the best out of everyone.”
- On the good news earlier in the week…
“We have finally got him (new-born son) home. We have moved to Stevenage now so it is an eight-minute drive for me instead of a two and a bit hours’ drive. It is nice to get him home and get settled and get focused on football again.
“It has been a stressful time, it is hard to say it was not. I have been trying to give everything to football. I have been driving back to Leicester every day to the hospital, staying at the hospital and coming back in the morning. It is going to take its toll. It is nice to be finally back, sleeping well and focusing everything on football now.”
