Excerpts from the Chairman's Programme Notes...
- On last week's results...
“Our draw at Notts County last week, coming back three times from behind, was a good point on the road but you would normally expect to come away with all three points when you score three goals away from home.
“Whilst I thought we played much better than the past few games with three great goals from open play, our defending was not of the standard that wins promotion and if we have serious ambitions of getting into the next league, we have got to do something about that urgently.
“Overall though, it was a good game to watch and I was pleased the lads came away with something to show for their passion and desire.
- On the Residents Letter launch...
“Off the pitch, I must mention the management and players admirable commitment to helping us improve gates. We took the brave step of putting a special ‘Two for a Tenner’ offer out to 44,000 households in Stevenage. I do not recall a professional club ever doing this before and it was picked up immediately by Sky Sports and various TV channels.
“In this day and age where some fans at the highest level complain about certain over paid players showing little or no commitment to their club, this was an example to all that a football club like ours sits at the heart of the community and without the fan engagement we work hard to deliver, there would be no football club. So my thanks to all involved – when I sometimes wonder why I invest so much time and finance into the club each year, it is things like this that make me pleased to do my bit and proud to be shoulder to shoulder with them to help our club continue to grow.
“Please, spread the word, get others to come and enjoy an afternoon or evening at The Lamex. We will do our best to provide a brand of entertaining, winning football that sends everyone home proud of their team."
