Danny Newton is set to face a prolonged spell on the sideline as the Stevenage man goes in for surgery on Friday...
An ankle injury has plagued Newton all season long and it has been decided that it would be best for all parties that the striker goes under the knife.
"He looks likely to miss the rest of the season," Dino Maamria said. "It is a blow for us. He has been carrying it for a while to be fair to Danny. He is a fantastic character and he has been a soldier.
"He has been playing through the pain and he had an injection on it a few weeks ago but that can only go so far. For his future, for our future, it is best to try and get that sorted and come back whenever he comes back, fitter, stronger and fresh from it.
"He is a big, big player for us and he is the first name on my teamsheet so it is a big blow for us but sometimes these things happen.
"There might be a chance he comes in before the end of the season but we will see."
Everybody at the football club wishes Danny all the best for his operation and subsequent recovery.
