Ilias Chair couldn’t hide his joy when speaking to the press following an extraordinary performance from the young attacker at Sincil Bank which saw him strike twice late to rescue a point for his team…
In only his third game for the club, Chair took the game by the scruff of the neck by scoring two outrageous goals to turn the game from 2-0 to 2-2 in a matter of minutes.
“I really enjoyed it today,” he said. “It was a very good game and we are happy about the point here at the leaders. I think we did a very good job.
“It was (getting away from us) a little bit but we kept going, kept working hard, kept putting the effort in and in the end we got the result.”
Understandably, supporters, on-lookers and media were quick to praise the QPR loanee following the final whistle but Chair was equally as quick to point towards his teammates.
“They were buzzing, they were telling me ‘You da man! You da man!’ but it is about the team. It is the team effort that counts and that is the most important thing.
“Without my teammates I can’t do nothing on the field. They have been delivering me balls all game long and I had to finish them. It has been an unlucky day to be fair, I score two times but I should have score six! Overall I think we did a good job and I am happy with my two goals but the most important thing now is the next game at home.”
The result was an important one for Stevenage as it keeps the squad in the hunt for the Play-Offs and Ilias Chair says that he and his teammates need to believe that they can achieve this season.
“Like I said before, I think this team has a lot of quality and we have to believe in it. Every day in training we have been working hard and I think you can see today, all the team were on it. Even though we changed formation, we did so good at it and prepared so well so I think the play-offs are a realistic goal at the moment.
“Today we showed we can compete with any team in this league and we should believe it.”
