The Weston-Super Mare born official only took charge of one Stevenage match last season, the 5-0 EFL Trophy Victory over Swansea U21s.
In total, Johnson handed out 142 yellow cards and 6 red cards across his 42 games in EFL League One and League Two in 2018/19.
Johnson will be assisted by Graeme Fyvie and Ian Dudley, with Scott Oldham appointed as Fourth Official.
