Pompey Pre-Season Preview

19 July 2019

During this Summer’s Transfer Window, Portsmouth have brought in eight new players to improve their squad in preparation for the upcoming 2019/20 season...

The versatility of the new players gives manager Kenny Jackett a stronger squad depth to choose from for the upcoming season. No Transfer Fees have been spent on any of the incomings, whilst six players have left, including regular starting centre-half Matt Clarke who has departed for Brighton at a fee of £3.5 million.

Manager Kenny Jackett was appointed as Pompey Boss on June 2nd 2017 and he makes his first competitive visit to The Lamex Stadium as Portsmouth manager on Saturday. His last competitive clash at the home of Stevenage came during the 2013/14 season as Boro and Wolves battled to a Tuesday Night goalless draw.

Portsmouth have had a successful Pre-Season so far, currently still unbeaten after an 11-0 win at University College Dublin, and 2-1 away wins over Havant and Waterlooville and Bognor Regis Town. With Stevenage also unbeaten, Dino Maamria and his team will look to end Portsmouth’s good form and establish their first win at home this Summer.

The most recent competitive match between both sides was a memorable League Two fixture back in March 2017, in which Stevenage came away 3-0 victors. The result thrust Boro into the Play-Off mix as Jack King, Matty Godden and Jobi McAnuff scored during a remarkable first half.

The most recent player to play for both sides was centre-forward Patrick Agyemang. The Ghanaian first joined Stevenage on loan from Queens Park Rangers in March 2012 before joining on a permanent deal in August 2012. After not scoring throughout the first half of the season, he joined Portsmouth on loan in February 2013 and after impressing, would remain at the club on a permanent basis until March 2015.
