Scott Cuthbert named as Club Captain

31 July 2019

Scott Cuthbert has been named the Stevenage FC Club Captain ahead of the 2019/20 season...

The experienced centre-back has made a huge impression since joining the Club, playing in every Sky Bet League Two game last season and picking up three of four available Player of the Season Awards.

Following this Summer's departure of Ronnie Henry, Manager Dino Maamria says Cuthbert was a natural choice for the position.

"I don't think it was a secret. He is one of the best leaders I have worked with. He is an inspiration to the dressing room and a brilliant role model for both the younger and older players. We are proud to have him as Club Captain for Stevenage Football Club on and off the pitch. He will relish and thrive on the responsibility."

Cuthbert says that although he already considers himself a natural leader, he is over-the-moon to officially be given the nod.

"I am delighted. It is a massive honour to captain the Club. I enjoy everything that comes with the responsibility that comes with being Captain, of and off the pitch, and I can't wait for the season now.

"I know that the Club have worked really hard behind the scenes this season in terms of rebranding the Club and I know they have got the investment scheme that is coming to an end, which they have been working tirelessly on, to bring revenue into the Club.

"We have the new North Stand opening, the new badge. It is exciting times at Stevenage and we want to put a show on the pitch to show that we are improving and that we are heading in the right direction too."
