David Oldfield reappointed

5 November 2019

Stevenage FC can confirm the reappointment of David Oldfield to work with Caretaker Manager Mark Sampson and Alex Revell...

The 51 year old has enjoyed a long career as a professional, playing over 600 games before moving into coaching, working in the managerial teams at Peterborough, Burton Albion and QPR.

He brings a wealth of league coaching experience to the dug out and the training ground to help move Boro up the Sky Bet League Two table.

Discussing the disappointing start to the season, Chairman Phil Wallace said "It’s been difficult re-building the team since we made a change in September. When Mark took over we hadn’t won a game and taken just 3 points from 7 league games.

"Although he lost the first two games, we still won 6 points from Mark’s first 7 games and have only lost 2 games from the last 8.

"The measure we use to judge our management is weighted heavily around the last 6 game form guide and we are currently 16th in this table, with 8 points from 6 games.

"Mark has the role for the moment and if he can continue to climb the last 6 game form table to sit alongside the excellent team spirit he’s creating with our players, then no doubt we’ll try to make that permanent.

"The size of the squad – our biggest ever - has made it hard for this management team to make an instant impact, but the form table shows we’re getting there and I’ve no doubt that we’ll continue to improve results."
