With Saturday’s game against Morecambe fast approaching, we caught up with journalist Derek Quinn of The Lancashire Post…
- Morecambe must take plenty of positives into this Saturday’s game, after their last away match when they beat Colchester 1-0?
“In many ways it was the perfect away performance. Morecambe produced their most solid display for some time and fully deserved the win. They kept a great shape and defended well against a good side and always looked a threat on the break themselves.
“Up front they had an attacking edge with Cole Stockton fully deserving his first goal of the season. He had been rather unlucky not to get off the mark earlier on in the campaign and Morecambe will be hoping the goal will kick start his season.”
- Are the fans worried about relegation or are they confident that Jim Bentley can once again preserve the Club's League Two status?
“It is probably too early in the day to be truly fearful of relegation but at the same time nobody at the club is happy with the current league position. Jim Bentley has performed wonders season after season with the Shrimps and they have experience of being at the wrong end of the table which they will have the benefit of. There is no doubt they need to start picking up points however to calm the nerves.”
- How would you assess the start to the season?
“Much of the disappointment about the way the season has panned out so far is because Morecambe ended last season so well. They were the in-form League Two team over the last 10 games of last season and although they lost some big players like Aaron Collins and Zak Mills in the summer, they recruited well with many of their best players signing new deals. On paper, they have one of the strongest squads for some time but things haven’t quite gelled as much as they would have liked.”
- What kind of game can The Boro fans expect on Saturday?
“This is a massive game for both clubs, even at this early stage of the season. Both clubs have a lot to play for. As such it may be a nervous afternoon and there will be a big emphasis on the first goal of the game.”
- Score prediction and goalscorers?
“I hate making predictions because I am absolutely rubbish at it, so I am going to plead the fifth on this one and be totally non-committal.”
