  • Onto the game...

Following back-to-back home defeats this past week, Boro are still searching for that elusive first win of the season and face stern opposition in Forest Green Rovers on Saturday. Michael Timlin re-signed with the Club on Friday morning, hoping to add some added bite and tenacity in midfield ahead of the match.

Five wins, two defeats and two draws from their opening nine fixtures with the joint best defensive record in the division shows that Mark Cooper's squad are on their way to another push at promotion in Sky Bet League Two.

  • What they said...

Caretaker boss Mark Sampson believes that the Stevenage squad has all the ingredients to move out of trouble.

“The spirit within this group is outstanding, it really is. They care so much about getting some result and making our supporters proud. They are devastated at the moment that we can’t give them that but it is only us that can turn it around.

“Only through hard work, resilience, determination and desire can we turn this round of result round. I can assure everybody that the players are showing all those qualities in abundance on a daily basis and I have never seen a more determined group to get this team moving forward.

“That is our complete focus now for Saturday, to be ready for a tough challenge away at Forest Green, to prepare as well as we can, to turn up there with a huge emotional energy and intensity ready to fight for everything we are going to get and those three points.”

Forest Green Rovers Manager Mark Cooper says that, “You have got to try to win your home games and pick up points on the road. I thought we did enough to win the other night, we played well with the ball but couldn’t find the finish.

“Stevenage have always been direct, robust and aggressive. Whether that changes under the new management, I’m not certain, so we will have to wait and see”

  • Previous meetings...
Although Boro come out on top in the overall standings between the two sides, with 13 wins compared to Forest Greens seven, it is the Green Devils that have certainly had the better of it in recent times.
Stevenage are without a win against FGR under Mark Cooper, winless in four meetings with losses in three of those matches. Last time out, Rovers won 2-0 at The Lamex Stadium in a late January clash earlier this calendar year.
