Stevenage Football Club lost out 1-0 to Luton Town on Saturday in the club’s third and final pre-season friendly...

It was another positive outing for Alex Revell’s side who more than matched Championship opposition throughout the contest as the focus now turns to the Carabao Cup for next Saturday’s First Round Tie against Portsmouth.

The match was played behind-closed-doors at The Lamex Stadium and a starting line-up of Cumming, Coker, Cuthbert, Prosser, James-Wildin, Smith, Vincelot, Osborne, Marsh, Akinwande and List was named for the first half against a strong Luton side.

It was the visitors that enjoyed the best moments of the first half, with Collins firing over early in proceedings and Berry heading at Cumming a few minutes later, but aside from that there was little joy for either side in the final third.

Half-time saw Terence Vancooten replace Luther James-Wildin as the game began to open up, with opportunities starting to be created for both sides.

Cornick came close to getting onto the end of a back-post cross straight out of the break, whilst Moncur and Lee both saw shots blocked during a frenetic few moments in the Stevenage area.

Boro’s best chance of the match came on the hour mark, as Tyrone Marsh took down a raking pass into his path, before cutting inside and forcing a good save from the Luton stopper.

Alex Revell rang the changes in the 70th minute as Johnson, Marshall, Fernandez, Dinanga, Fielding, Newton and 15 year old Academy player Sam Tinubu were introduced into the action and soon after, Coker stung the finger-tips of Shea after bursting into the box to strike the ball following Newton’s direct run and pass out wide.

Then, Cornick opened up the scoring with 11 minutes to go, getting in down the left-hand side of the box before rattling in a low shot from a tight angle to give the visitors the lead.

List saw a well-struck shot fly narrowly wide of the post with just a few minutes left of the match, as Stevenage concluded their pre-season schedule with a narrow defeat to Championship opposition.
