Fresh off promotion to the Football League just a few months prior, Boro played their first ever League Cup match against Portsmouth back on 9th August 2010, when the visitors won 2-1 in the first ever meeting between the two sides.
Since then, Stevenage have enjoyed a superb record against Portsmouth, with five wins and two draws from the subsequent nine matches played.
In the first ever league meeting, Boro triumphed 2-1 on 23rd October 2012 thanks to two goals from Filipe Morais in a memorable Tuesday night clash in Sky Bet League One.
Francois Zoko was the hero two years later, as Stevenage knocked Portsmouth out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win, on the way to a Fourth Round run which was eventually ended by Everton at The Lamex Stadium.
Tom Pett scored the only goal of the game in a huge match in April 2015 to help keep the momentum on the way to reaching the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs.
In the two most recent meetings between the two teams, Boro did the double over Pompey in the 2016/17 season thanks to a 2-1 win at Fratton Park and a 3-0 home win that continues to live long in the memory of Stevenage fans everywhere.
This Saturday's match will be historic in its own right, as it will be the first time that a season has kicked off with a League Cup tie and will be the first Saturday League Cup match to be available to stream.
