Revell on COVID Tests, Postponements & Boxing Day clash

24 December 2020

Ahead of Saturday’s game at Cheltenham Town on Boxing Day, Stevenage Manager Alex Revell has offered some background on the recent postponements and said that the club are ready to play, irrespective of the shortage of players available...

"We had 10 players isolated with a combination of positive tests and close contact on 13th December, then a further 5 positive tests later in that week, so we had to close the training ground whilst we regrouped,” Revell said.

“The 7 lads isolated for close contact tested negative on the 19th and we now have them back on the grass, full of enthusiasm. It is still a depleted squad in terms of numbers with the 5 players who tested positive unable to resume training, and we have a handful of injuries and suspensions, but we want to play and I have recalled Luis Fernandez from his loan at Oxford City and called up Academy player Alfie Williams into the squad.

“I doubt we will have a full bench, but often unplanned events produce unlikely heroes and we are raring to go”
