30 January 2020

Looking ahead to our Sky Bet League Two match against Leyton Orient this Saturday, we caught up with journalist Jacob Ranson, of Ilford Recorder…

  • How do you assess Orient’s season so far?

“A rollercoaster of emotions, with Justin Edinburgh tragically passing in the summer, it was always going to be difficult. Assistant Ross Embleton stepped up in an interim role to bring stability before reverting to his old role with the appointment of Carl Fletcher who lasted less than a month. Ross stepped up once again before eventually being handed the role permanently in January.

“No one should expect a fantastic season after all of that, but consistency must improve to push them up the table.”

  • What do you put the O’s inconsistency in results down to having only lost four games and won two in the last ten?

“Sloppy goals being conceded and a lack of a goalscoring threat. They start slowly and give their opponents too much respect instead of going at them and then come to life after trailing. The games they have won are normally because they have started brightly and created plenty chances of their own.

  • Any team news going into the fixture?

“James Dayton is suspended. Sam Ling, Louis Dennis and Jobi McAnuff all remain injured. Apart from that, Orient will have a fully fit squad.”

  • What kind of game can do the Boro fans expect on Saturday?

“If the O’s play like they have the last two and a half games, an exciting one, as they have looked to create plenty and moved the ball well.

“If they revert to the way they were playing prior to that it could be a dull affair. Hopefully the O’s and Stevenage both up their games with the importance of this fixture being on the line.

  • Prediction and goalscorers?

“I’ll go with 2-1 Orient! With Sotiriou and Maguire-Drew grabbing the goals.”
