Scott Cuthbert signs new deal

15 June 2020

Club captain Scott Cuthbert has signed a new contract at Stevenage…

The just-turned 33 year old centre half has made 73 appearances for Boro since joining two years ago and was keen to show his support for manager Alex Revell and the club by signing a new deal, irrespective of which league Stevenage will play in next season.

Chairman Phil Wallace said, “Scott has been excellent for us over the last two seasons. He has been a model professional on and off the pitch in difficult times and he is someone we believe epitomises what we are about. Alex Revell was keen for Scott to continue as skipper and help us get back to winning ways in a new look team he wants to build.

“It is a tremendous boost as we await the outcome of how this season will finish. We have not yet published a retained list as Alex Revell isn’t able to speak to the players until we know which league we will be in. Scott was different – he is the skipper and he was the first signing Alex wanted to make.

“We now have six contracted players registered for next season – Scott, Terence Vancooten, Luther Wildin, Charlie Carter, Arthur Iontton and Elliot List, whilst Luis Fernandez and several young pros have a chance to stake a claim for a squad place next season as we run with a 20 man squad.

“We had six players on loan who have all returned to their clubs and Alex now has to make decisions by 23rd June on 19 players, all of whom are either out of contract on 30th June or have option years we can trigger if we wish.

“Alex will start these conversations this week, so that we know where we stand by the end of the month.”
