Loan Report: Smyth secures Braintree success

2 March 2020

Despite no game this weekend, Stevenage players were still in action around on loan around the grounds...

Braintree Town's influx of Stevenage loan players paid dividends on Saturday, as Arthur Iontton, Jack Smith and Liam Smyth were all involved in The Iron's 2-0 home victory over second-placed chasing Bath City. As well as the Boro trio, former Academy players Charley O'Keefe and Zak Guerfi both started at Cressing Road.

With the score already at 1-0, Jack Smith and Liam Smyth were introduced with ten minutes to go, before Smyth struck from outside the area in the last minute (2:22) to secure the three points.

The win moves Braintree Town up from second bottom into 18th, one point out of the drop zone in the National League South.

The team they replaced in the relegation places, St Albans City, fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Chippenham Town. Jamie Fielding was unavailable for Ian Allinson's Saints, due to injury.

Up a divison into the National League, Alex Reid added another goal to his Dagenham & Redbridge tally, but one was not enough as Barrow proved too powerful for the Daggers in a 2-1 defeat in Cumbria.

Into the Isthmian Premier, Joel Rollinson's Cray Wanderers made it eleven matches without defeat after dispatching relegation threatened Merstham 3-1 at Hayes Lane. Rollinson was influential throughout the ninety, picking up an assist for the first goal, and involved in the other two from the right of midfield.

Jamie Jellis missed Wingate & Finchley's 1-1 draw with Lewes through injury, while Jason Cowley has returned to Stevenage after his loan at Solihull Moors came to an end last week.
