Stevenage face Newport County tonight in what will be only the 12th ever meeting between the teams...
The two clubs first played against each other in 2014, following County's promotion to the EFL. A 2-0 away defeat got Stevenage off to a rocky start against the South Wales side, although a seven game unbeaten run from that point on soon changed that, as Boro recorded five wins and two draws against the Exiles between 2015 and 2018.
The first of those victories was a 2-1 home win in March 2015, with Bira Dembele and Charlie Lee on the scoresheet for Graham Westley's side. A 2-2 draw at Rodney Parade in August of the following season was next, before another 2-1 home win, courtesy of goals from Jake Mulraney and Aaron O'Connor.
Tom Pett's brace helped Stevenage to a first away win over Newport in December 2016, before a 3-1 home win just a month later, thanks to a hat-trick from Matty Godden to secure the double over Newport in 2016/17.
A 3-3 home draw on the opening day of the 2017/18 season was followed by a 1-0 win at Rodney Parade later in the year, before the Exiles finally got back to winning ways against Boro in October 2018, after a 98th minute Semenyo goal sank Stevenage hearts to end the unbeaten run.
The following two games saw the story of late drama continue, as Alex Revell's 85th minute header on New Years Day 2019 sank Newport despite Kurtis Guthrie's first half red card, and then in our most recent meeting, former Boro loanee Jamille Matt cancelled out Emmanuel Sonupe's 12th minute strike in injury time, to mark the end of Mark Sampson's reign as Interim Manager.
In total, Stevenage have won six, drawn three and lost two games against tonight's visitors, who currently sit joint-top of the table.
