During what became an unprecedented season for EFL football, the scheme recognises that family engagement continued to thrive in 2019/20, despite supporters being unable to attend live fixtures for the final part of the campaign.
Stevenage received ‘mystery family’ visits during the 2019/20 Season, prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, with the assessors’ feedback and reports determining whether the Club would achieve ‘Family Excellence’ status.
The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme sees each Club assessed across a range of touchpoints, in order to reflect and report on the first-time family experience they encounter.
The report awarded Stevenage with an overall score of 8.0 and an average touchpoint of 8.1 which placed the Club 6th in Sky Bet League Two and 21st overall in the EFL. The report states:
"This is the eighth consecutive time that Stevenage has achieved Family Excellence, a remarkable statitic for one of the smallest clubs to reach that milestone. This season, again, shows plentiful evidence of the this club's authentic personality. They have maximised their efforts to really provide lots of positive touchpoints for families so that they get the most out of their day.
"The evidence from this season's one visit is that the club continues to make a clear effort to go above and beyond with their family offer and, as well as everything detailed in the report, they also present first time attendees with certificiates to make their first match whilst also issuing fan passports so that they can track which games they have attended: an excellent innovation that other clubs will surely follow.
"With so many ergonomic and personal health concerns on people's minds, it is essential that clubs develop compelling reasons for attendance. In this, Stevenage perform to a very good standard with plenty to convince families to come down and give the Boro their support."
Boro were awarded with 9's for First Impressions, Social Media Use, the Stadium Vicinity and Staff Engagement.
The Club can't wait to welcome supporters back to The Lamex Stadium in 2020/21 and will once again be doing all it can to attract and entertain families on Matchdays.
