Community Careline Appreciation Day on Opening Day vs Barrow

2 August 2021

Stevenage Football Club is delighted to invite over 400 Coronavirus Community Careline users, volunteers, and staff to Saturday’s first game of the season…

During what was one of the most difficult and challenging times for many people around the globe, Stevenage FC and its Foundation contributed its utmost to support the local community with its immediate response to the pandemic.

A letter from Stevenage FC Chief Executive Alex Tunbridge has been sent to each Careline user, volunteer and staff member, offering two free tickets to Saturday’s opening day of the league season vs Barrow AFC in recognition of their fantastic work during the pandemic.

In addition to the ticket offering, each Coronavirus Community Careline volunteer is invited onto the pitch ahead of kick-off, giving supporters the chance to show their appreciation for the time and effort put in over those trying and testing few months.

After the moment’s appreciation, volunteers will then deliver their final sandwich to Careline recipients seated in the North Stand.

  • Marina, 86 – Community Careline User.

Marina made the decision to give the Careline a call just a few days after her partner of 42 years sadly passed away in hospital after contracting coronavirus. After spending almost half of their lives together, Marina was only able to say goodbye to her husband over the telephone.

After getting in touch with the Careline, Marina received weekly phone calls from the team who offered support throughout her difficult times. Marina was also a recipient of free daily sandwiches, which she found incredibly valuable, not just to help provide her with a daily meal but also to give her the opportunity to have a doorstep chat every day.

Marina is incredibly grateful for the weekly phone calls and despite still having struggles, she has shown incredible bravery at the challenges she has faced this year.

Show your support & appreciation for all involved in the Stevenage FC Coronavirus Community Careline this Saturday as Alex Revell’s men take on Barrow AFC in a 3pm kick-off.
