EDP Trials announced for August amid National Cup success

29 June 2021

After reaching the EFL CEFA National Cup final with a 3-0 win away at Swindon Town, the Stevenage FC Education & Development Programme squad take on Macclesfield FC tomorrow (30.06.21)…

Taking place at York City’s LNER Community Stadium, Boro’s EDP side will compete in the EFL CEFA National Cup final for the very first time in the Academy’s history.

Reaching a national final is representative of the continuing progress and growth of the Club’s EDP programme, in addition to graduate Timmy Smith earning himself a professional contract with Stevenage FC in April – becoming the first EDP student to do so.

In addition to Smith’s success, the EDP has also had recent achievements with a development contract for Alex Taylor, and Macsen Fraser who earned a full apprenticeship coming through the programme.

Students Corey Rodriguez, Bradley Shaw, Morgan Dean, Harry Clark, James Forrest and Jamie Norris all made appearances for the Under 18s setup in the EFL Youth Alliance League, as well as Reece Crowter, Cain Keller and Luke Middleton for the Club’s Under 23s.

Stevenage Football Club’s Education & Development Programme is for Year 11 & 12 aspiring footballers to continue their education with a either a BTEC Level 3 in Sport or A-Level  qualifications while in a football environment.

There is a strong emphasis on the importance of players completing the Level 3 BTEC to ensure the players give themselves the best possible opportunities to leave the programme with a qualification and use this to go onto other aspects in their aspiring careers.

The coaching is delivered by UEFA A licensed coaches, while the education curriculum is delivered by Virtual Learning UK, who employ all teaching staff and work in partnership with Stevenage Football Club.

To take part in the August trial, hopeful participants will need to register their interest by clicking here.

The Trial will take place on 3G pitches and players will be required to wear suitable training kit, shin pads, boots suitable for the 3G surface and a water bottle/sports drink.
