#StevenageChallenge wins Global Awards

23 June 2021

Stevenage FC sponsors Burger King, in collaboration with DAVID, have won the Grand Prix in both the Direct and Social & Influencer categories at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for the Stevenage Challenge...

In June 2019, Stevenage Football Club's two-year agreement with Burger King caused and unlikely yet unique collaboration between the League Two football club and an international brand.

Since then, the Club has become the most played team on EA Sports FIFA video game series, increased its replica shirt sales by 300% and is now a Club known by millions of people across the world.

The Club launched its eye catching kits in Summer 2019 which featured the burger chain’s iconic logo for the first time, turning heads and creating a social media frenzy.

Working with advertising agency DAVID Miami, Burger King scored top prize at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, winning both the Grand Prix in the Direct and Social & Influencer category.

The fast-food brand’s “Stevenage Challenge,” invited players of FIFA 20 to pick Stevenage as their team and complete in-game challenges for a chance at winning prizes.

By backing an underdog, Burger King got brand exposure within the popular FIFA game for a fraction of the sponsorship cost, while Stevenage also received popularity online that had eluded the team in real life.
