A Paul Fairclough XI and Barry Fry’s Barnet will face off against each other in a benefit match for Stevenage Football Club record goal scorer Martin Gittings…
Taking place at The Lamex Stadium, a Benefit Match in aid of Martin Gittings has been announced for Sunday 5th September with a 2pm kick-off.
Gittings scored a record 217 goals for Stevenage Borough between his debut in 1981 and his final game in November 1994. The potent goal scorer also played for the likes of Hitchin Town, Hendon and Barnet during his playing career, with the latter agreed as suitable opponents for a benefit fixture given the two sides’ competitive history.
Sadly, earlier this year, Martin was diagnosed with the incurable and irremediable condition of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). The condition is closely associated with Parkinson’s disease but with rapid deterioration of nerve cells in the brain.
Martin currently receives 24-hour care at home, and any money raised from the benefit match will be split between specialist care and an MSA charity.
Match tickets can now be purchased online at www.borotickets.co.uk at the following prices:
