Golden Share to be allocated to Stevenage FC Supporters’ Association

24 February 2022

Stevenage Football Club owner Phil Wallace has today confirmed ongoing work with lawyers and will shortly approach shareholders to gift a Golden Share to the Club’s Supporters’ Association…

“Stevenage Football Club is a fundamental part of the heritage and culture of the town and as such I would like to see certain aspects of the Club protected in future. Our Supporters’ Association is long established and representative of a wide part of the fan base and this proposal has been met with a very favourable response from them.

I believe fans should have a right of veto if certain key changes are made to our Club. The Golden Share provides that and in future any change to the Club badge, red and white home colours, Club name or location of the stadium must have the approval of the SA or it cannot go ahead.

Over 22 years, it has been my privilege to own Stevenage Football Club. I believe we have moved forwards in many ways and this proposal of a Golden Share gifted to our SA is another step forward. I believe it could and should also lead to the SA representing more fans than it currently does and becoming closer to the Board, which will make fans more aware of our issues and developments.

I would like to gift this Golden Share before the end of this season and will seek shareholder support over the coming months.”
