Stevenage's penultimate pre-season fixture ends goalless in Peterborough...

With the Sky Bet League Two campaign just one week away, Stevenage made the trip to National League North side Peterborough Sports for the penultimate pre-season test.

Aaron Chapman started between the sticks behind a back three of Piergianni, Bostwick and Under 18s defender Jaden Ogwuazor. Kane Smith and Townsend-West occupied the wing back roles either side of a midfield trio of Jack Smith, Jake Taylor and Alfie Williams. Danny Rose and Jamie Reid partnered up in attack.

The opening twenty minutes were rather quiet as both teams adjusted to an unfamiliar challenge. The first chance of the game didn’t occur until the twenty-second minute as Kane Smith took aim from outside the area, but his effort went wide of the mark.

The Stevenage side, which included a mix of youth and experience, grew into the game in the later stages of the first half but were still unable to create a clear-cut chance. The stop-start nature of the game was mainly due to the large number of fouls committed.

After a silent first 45, the second half got underway and Boro looked to up the tempo. Jamie Reid did well to win the ball outside the area, five minutes into the half but his following effort was fired high over the bar.

Despite Stevenage being vastly dominant in possession, the second half was unfortunately just as quiet as the first. Jamie Reid looked like the only real threat on the pitch as he took aim once again, this time coming closer, but still high and wide.

Ninety minutes of football were concluded as the referee blew his whistle to put an end to an almost silent game of football. Stevenage now look ahead to Tuesday for the final pre-season test against Stamford AFC.
