Stevenage travel to Kent tomorrow for a 3pm Kick Off with Neil Harris’ Gillingham in Sky Bet League Two…
Steve Evans’ side sit top of Sky Bet League Two as they look to continue their impressive form, after picking up ten league wins in thirteen games. Last Saturday, Boro earned yet another three points at The Lamex Stadium with a 2-0 win over Swindon Town through a Jordan Roberts brace.
Gillingham Football Club spent the last ten campaigns in Sky Bet League One before suffering relegation earlier this year. The Gills earned just eight wins in forty-six games last season to put an end to their ten-year spell in the third tier. The Kent side currently sit nineteenth in Sky Bet League Two, with just two wins to their name after twelve league matches. They have scored just four goals in twelve games but have been reasonably solid in defence, conceding just twelve.
Gillingham’s most recent home League match was two weeks ago as Sutton United travelled to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium. The Gills won 1-0 on the day thanks to a last-gasp winner from Scott Kashket. Despite picking up two victories at home this season, Gillingham are still without a win away from home in the league.
Neil Harris took over as Gills boss in January 2022 following the departure of current Stevenage Gaffer, Steve Evans. Harris undertook a difficult task of keeping Gillingham in Sky Bet League One but fell at the last hurdle on the final day of the campaign. So far, he has struggled to pick up form with his side as they now look to climb the table.
Boro and The Gills have met on just six occasions in the past, with Stevenage winning twice, Gillingham winning three times and the sides drawing just once. The most recent encounter between the two clubs was back in 2015, as Stevenage hosted The Gills in FA Cup First Round at The Lamex Stadium. Goals from Chris Whelpdale, Steven Schumacher and Armand Gnanduillet contributed to a 3-0 win in front of a home crowd.
Stevenage have never managed to win against Gilllingham away from home but did pick up a home league victory over the Kent side in the 2013/14 campaign. Boro won 3-1 on the day thanks to goals from Darius Charles and Francois Zoko.
The MEMS Priestfield Stadium has been home to Gillingham FC since the club’s formation in 1893. The Ground currently holds a capacity of 11,582. It has four all-seater stands which have all been constructed since 1997. The highest attendance recorded was 23,002 back in 1948 as The Gills hosted QPR in that season’s FA Cup.
Ross Joyce has been appointed as Match Referee for tomorrow’s fixture with Nicholas Dunn and Alan Cresswell as his Assistants and Marc Wilson as Fourth Official. So far this campaign, Joyce has handed out twenty three yellow cards and two reds in eight EFL fixtures.
