We take a look at some of the players who have represented both Stevenage and Portsmouth ahead of this Saturday’s huge clash in Sky Bet League One…
Four players from the current Stevenage squad have appeared for Pompey at some stage of their career. Nathan Thompson and Ben Thompson played together for Portsmouth in the 2018/19 campaign, with Ben’s loan spell ending in the January. Nathan went on to finish the season as an EFL Trophy winner, grabbing the equaliser for Portsmouth to send them into Extra Time at Wembley.
Left-back Dan Butler began his professional career at Portsmouth, rising through the academy ranks from the age of ten. As a senior player, Butler made forty-eight appearances for Pompey at left-back. Louis Thompson signed for Boro from the Hampshire side this summer after appearing regularly in midfield for the last two campaigns.
Looking at former Stevenage players, Patrick Agyemang, James Dunne and Bondz N’Gala all appeared for Boro and Pompey in the early to mid 2010s. Agyemang made thirty-one appearances in a Boro shirt before trading red and white for blue, making forty-nine appearances for Pompey.
James Dunne was a regular midfielder for Stevenage in their 2012/13 League One campaign, scoring seven goals in the process. In the same season, centre back Bondz N’Gala made twenty-eight appearances for the Hertfordshire side. Both players then made the move to the south coast after their spells in Stevenage.
More recently, left-back Steve Seddon was popular with the Stevenage supporters throughout his loan spell in the 2018/19 campaign where he scored three goals in twenty-five appearances. In 2020, Seddon enjoyed a loan spell at Pompey where he appeared on twelve occasions.
