Stevenage look to end 2023 with a bang as they welcome Neil Harris’ Cambridge United to The Lamex Stadium for a 7:45pm kick-off…

This year’s Boxing Day fixture was a huge success for Boro as a crowd of over five thousand witnessed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Northampton Town at The Lamex Stadium. Jamie Reid, Jordan Roberts and Elliott List grabbed the goals.

Tonight, another local fixture occurs on Broadhall Way as Cambridge United look for their first win in five years over Stevenage who will be hoping to stay in the play-off places going into 2024.

The Opposition

Cambridge United recently appointed former Millwall, Cardiff and Gillingham boss Neil Harris as their Manager and they currently find themselves 14th in Sky Bet League One. Since Harris’ appointment, the side have won two of their last four games.

Boxing Day saw Cambridge’s only defeat under Harris so far, and they were rather unfortunate. The U’s travelled to Oxford United and took the lead inside 30 minutes through Jordan Cousins. The second half was a different story though, as A 54th minute equaliser, followed by a 95th minute winner meant that Cambridge went home empty-handed against a strong Oxford side.

Gassan Ahadme and Fejiri Okenabirhie are the two attackers standing at the top of Cambridge’s goalscoring charts this season, Ahadme with eight and the latter with nine.

Head-to-Head

Boro and The U’s have met on thirty competitive occasions in the past, with Stevenage winning 14, Cambridge winning 11 and the sides drawing five times. There were many encounters between the sides in the Conference, including a big 4-1 victory, before the sides eventually met in the Football League in 2014.

All Stevenage supporters will fondly remember our trip to The Abbey Stadium in January 2020 as Graham Westley’s Boro hit four past the hosts in an extremely memorable away day.

This season’s reverse fixture also went in Stevenage’s favour as Jordan Roberts and Jamie Reid scored away from home to wrap up a 2-1 victory. Boro will be hoping for another hardworking performance this evening at The Lamex.

Officials

Lee Swabey has been appointed Match Referee for tonight’s game, with Samuel Fudge and Dean Treleaven as his Assistants, and Daniel Robinson as Fourth Official. Swabey has dished out 71 yellow cards and two reds in 15 games this season.
