Manager Steve Evans previews Friday night’s game against Cambridge United at The Lamex Stadium in Sky Bet League One...

Following Boxing Day’s 3-0 win over Northampton Town at home, another local fixture is next as Cambridge United make the journey to SG2.

Goals from Jamie Reid, Jordan Roberts and Elliott List earned the victory in reward for a brilliant team performance.

“The performance was excellent and a carry-over from Barnsley - a game we deserved to win.

We freshened the team up, and we will again tomorrow. The standards in the squad are excellent, and the lads have a real focus on the work they are doing.

Cambridge United have good players, an experienced manager and brilliant supporters, so it will be another tough game.

They deserved to win at Oxford on Boxing Day given their performance, so we will need to be at our very best.

Friday’s game will be Stevenage’s third in seven days, three days before a New Year’s Day clash at Portsmouth.

“As managers, we can all moan, but this happens every season. Players prefer to play than train, so that in itself is a bonus. We will be as fresh as possible, and the lads are incredibly fit, so all in all, let’s get on with it.

Bigger crowds are normal at this time of the year, which again helps create great atmospheres for the lads to play in.

We have a squad of players, not a favoured eleven players.

The staff and I take a wide range of factors before we pick the team and, of course, the substitutes bench.

We’re now over halfway through the League One season, and Stevenage currently sit in sixth place after 24 games.

“We need to remain humble and focused for every game.

Any team can beat any other on any day. It is all about what we do. We do not fear any team, but I can tell you we respect every one of our opponents.

Our supporters have been brilliant. I know how hard it is to find the money to support us at the moment, and I can say now my staff and players are often reminded.

May I wish every supporter a very Happy Christmas, enjoy this festive period and, as always, back the lads vocally like never before!"
