Boro have just ten matches remaining of their league campaign, five at The Lamex Stadium and five away from home. The side sit second in the table and one point ahead of Northampton Town in fourth with a game in hand.
After two consecutive home victories, Stevenage travelled to Carlisle last weekend and picked up an important point in the race for automatic promotion.
Since the club’s promotion to the Football League in 2019, Salford City have been eyeing up the play-off places, and this campaign has been no different. The Ammies currently sit seventh in the table, two points inside the play-offs with just nine games to play. They are the second highest scorers in the division, having netted fifty-seven in thirty-seven matches.
In four of their last five matches, Salford have scored three or more goals, so Boro will have to be defensively solid to keep them at bay. Last weekend, The Ammies faced Doncaster Rovers at home and walked away with a 3-1 victory, with Stevie Mallan and Luke Bolton getting on the scoresheet.
Neil Wood took over as Salford boss in May 2022 and is currently enjoying his first managerial spell in the Football League. Previously, he coached in the Manchester United academy from 2014 before being promoted as Under-23 Manager from 2019.
Stevenage have met Salford on just seven occasions in the past, with a victory over the Ammies being seemingly rare. Today’s visitors have won six out of seven meetings, with Stevenage picking up just the one win. That win came at the end of last season, as Jamie Reid, Luke Norris and Elliott List contributed to a 4-2 home victory.
This season’s reverse fixture ended in Salford’s favour as they handed Boro their first loss of the campaign with a 1-0 victory at The Peninsula Stadium.
Darren Drysdale has been appointed Match Referee for today’s fixture with Kevin Howick and Daniel Flynn as his Assistants, and Robert Madley as Fourth Official. Drysdale has handed out seventy-five yellow cards and two reds in twenty-six matches this campaign.
