Steve Evans calls on the town of Stevenage to show their support to the team this Saturday vs Salford City...
Ahead of Saturday's game at The Lamex Stadium vs Salford City, we sat down with Manager Steve Evans.
"It’s an amazing turnaround. After the same number of games, we’ve got over double the number of points to last season. We were 66/1 for promotion in the summer, so we’ll take where we are now with ten games to go!
Everyone is saying it’s ten cup finals, but I’ll say it’s one cup final at a time. We can’t think of what happens beyond Salford, and we know we will need to be at our very best to add to our points tally – never mind get all three.
In our last few games, the squad have almost risen from the ashes. We’re producing our best performances of the season, we’re back at home and we know what we need to do. It’s one focus. One game. One final. Then, we’ll see how it goes after that.
We need the town to come out and show their support. They’ve been brilliant all week and especially in recent weeks. When we had the back-to-back Saturday and Tuesday last week, we knew we had to produce big performances to win those games. At key stages in those games, the supporters got us through that.
Go back to earlier in the season when we faced Leyton Orient, the town realised how important it was. That now goes into pale significance as to what this Saturday is.
We have one objective which is to finish in the top three. We have to retain the right that it’s in our destiny, and it will stay in our destiny if we win our games. We know what we have to achieve over the next ten games to be in that top group.
We’re going to need our supporters to come in good numbers on Saturday and get right behind us. If ever a football club needed its town to back it, it’s Saturday".
