Stevenage FC supporting The FA’s Play Safe weekend vs Oxford United

26 September 2023

Stevenage Football Club is proud to support The FA’s Play Safe Weekend this Saturday vs Oxford United…

The Play Safe campaign focuses attention on the vital importance of safeguarding in football and will be supported this weekend across every level of English football, including in the EFL, Premier League, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, and across the grassroots game.

This weekend, we are highlighting what makes Stevenage a family-friendly football club and what safeguarding policies & procedures we have in place.

Stevenage Football Club prides itself in being a safe space for young supporters and families, with a number of schemes in place to make The Lamex Stadium a warm and welcoming environment.

Close to the turnstiles, tea bar and toilets, our West Stand Family Area offers a great view of the whole pitch while keeping a distance from the occasionally boisterous away following.

Bringing an Under 12 to their first game at The Lamex Stadium? Let us know by ticking the First Time Fan box during your ticket purchase process, and we will reward your little one with a special certificate signed by the First Team squad!

Located outside the West Stand, the Kids' Zone at The Lamex Stadium is packed with fun & games for kids and families to enjoy ahead of kick-off! There’s something for everyone to enjoy in the build-up to the big game.

Boro Bear is the icon in the hearts of all loyal Stevenage supporters. If you spot him on a matchday, make sure to give him a wave or a high-five – he may even ask for a selfie!

Our Junior Boro Membership helps young supporters connect even closer to the action at Stevenage FC. From limited edition merchandise to an invite to our exclusive Christmas parties, becoming a Junior Boro Member is vital for every young Boro’ fan.

All local grassroots clubs and organisations are invited to watch a game at The Lamex Stadium from just £2 each! A matchday experience can include a penalty shootout on the pitch, a pre-match training session and a matchday guard of honour for each player and participant involved.

Every Stevenage FC Foundation Partner School received vouchers for discounted match tickets to a Stevenage home game this season, offering young families and new supporters an opportunity to visit The Lamex Stadium for a cheaper price.

In addition to the above, you can find our designated Club Safeguarding contacts here, and our Club Safeguarding policies here.

The FA’s Survivor Support and Safeguarding Advisory Group (FASSSAG) continues to support Play Safe. “Creating safe environments in every football setting is a collective responsibility. It’s really important that every single person in football – no matter if they’re actively involved or on the sidelines – understands that they have an ongoing role to play.

“Knowing how to act on any concerns is vital and Play Safe is a key way to raise awareness so that everyone is vigilant and knows what to do if they become aware of any inappropriate behaviour.”

This year’s Play Safe weekend focuses on the safeguarding role everyone has to play – coach, player, parent/carer, spectator or volunteer – to keep children and young people safe, no matter what the football setting.

Everyone, everywhere, every time is encouraged to watch, listen, talk and act if they have any safeguarding concerns.
