Stevenage welcome Burton Albion to The Lamex Stadium for the first time in a decade with a big three points up for grabs…

The League One play-off race is not over for Stevenage as they sit just three points outside with three games remaining. Saturday’s clash is simply a must-win encounter as the side look to remain in the hunt.

The midweek clash with Barnsley made Saturday’s fixture an even bigger one, as Boro picked up all three points at home to promotion hopefuls. The visitors went a goal up, but Stevenage’s hard work and resilience saw them grab two goals through Jamie Reid and Dan Butler to complete the comeback.

This season’s reverse fixture against Burton Albion was a similar story, as the Brewers opened the scoring before Jamie Reid and Kane Hemmings scored to make it 2-1.

The Opposition

Burton Albion have a completely different task on their hands which makes Saturday’s fixture incredibly important for both clubs. They currently sit 20th in the table, and are only outside of the drop zone on goal difference.

The Brewers have won just 10 of their 42 league games this season, but now they must find some form immediately in order to avoid relegation to the fourth tier. They are currently on a streak of 10 winless games, with their most recent victory coming back in February as they overcame Leyton Orient on the road.

Burton have struggled for goals all season, and have only managed to net two in their last five games. Last weeked, the side hosted Oxford United but were thrashed 4-0. Five days prior, it was another defeat at home, this time to Barnsley who won 3-1 on the day.

The Manager

Martin Patterson was appointed Head Coach of Burton in January, following the sacking of Dino Maamria. This is Patterson’s first managerial role in football, having previously coached in the MLS, as well as working as Michael Duff’s assistant at Barnsley and Swansea City. As a player, he is best remembered for his time with Burnley.

Officials

Ben Toner has been appointed as Match Referee for Saturday’s fixture, with Paul Kelly and Daniel Robinson as his Assistants, and Alex Bradley as Fourth Official. Toner’s most recent Stevenage fixture was the impressive 3-2 victory away to Wigan Athletic. He has dished out 146 yellow cards and one red in 30 games this season.
