Away Days: Peterborough United

13 March 2024

Stevenage make the short trip north to Peterborough on Wednesday evening to face The Posh live on Sky Sports…

Sixth-placed Stevenage meet with fifth-placed Peterborough as both clubs continue their dramatic hunt for the League One play-offs. Sky Sports cameras will be on location at the Weston Homes Stadium, capturing every moment live.

Boro will be looking to make it five games unbeaten on Wednesday, while Peterborough aims to make it five consecutive wins in League One. On Saturday, Stevenage were held to a 0-0 draw at The Lamex Stadium, so will be looking for a big result in Peterborough.

Stevenage’s away form has been very strong so far this season, as they have won 50% of their league games on the road. They will be hoping this can continue Wednesday evening as they come up against tough opposition.

This season’s reverse fixture between the two sides was a thriller at The Lamex Stadium. Luther James-Wildin and Ben Thompson gave Stevenage a 2-0 lead, but The Posh replied to earn a 2-2 draw.

The Opposition

Peterborough have enjoyed a rather impressive campaign as they sit eight points inside the play-offs and just seven points behind the automatic promotion spots. From their 36 league games, they have won a whopping 20, so it will be no easy task for Boro.

The Posh go into this game off the back of four consecutive League One wins, with the most recent coming away to Burton Albion on the weekend as they earned a 3-1 victory. The Tuesday prior to that, they hosted local rivals Northampton Town and picked up a thrilling 5-1 win, as Ephron Mason-Clark, Kwame Poku, Joel Randall, Hector Kyprianou and Josh Knight all found the back of the net.

Peterborough have certainly not lacked goals this season, as they have scored the joint most in the league (71), alongside Bolton Wanderers who have played two more games.

Unfortunately, for Stevenage there are several players to look out for on Wednesday evening, as Ephron Mason-Clark, Kwame Poku, Ricky-Jade Jones and Jonson Clarke-Harris have all hit double-digits in their goalscoring tallies this season.

The Manager

Darren Ferguson, the son of Sir Alex, is the current Peterborough boss, and is currently serving his fourth spell in charge of the club. He is nothing short of a Peterborough legend in truth, having guided the club to four promotions and one EFL Trophy win. As a player, Ferguson won the inaugural Premier League with Manchester United.

The Stadium

The Weston Homes Stadium has been home to Peterborough United since the club’s formation back in 1934. The ground has a capacity of 13,511, with a record attendance of 30,096 being set in 1965 for an FA Cup clash with Swansea. Away supporters are typically housed in one section of the Main Stand.

The Officials

Carl Brook has been appointed Match Referee for this one, with David Harrison and Daniel Bonneywell as his Assistants, and Sam Purkiss as Fourth Official. Brook has handed out 128 yellow cards and two reds in 30 games so far this season.
