Onto the game…

After the win over Morecambe on Saturday, Stevenage go into Tuesday’s game right in the thick of it around the play-off and promotion places.

Although Notts County and Exeter stand alone at the top of the pile, third placed Luton are just two points back from Boro in a congested Sky Bet League Two table. Only three teams have lost fewer games than Stevenage (2) after nine games played.

Carlisle on the other hand are beginning to pick up form after a slow start to the season.

Four points from their last two games, including a spectacular 5-0 win at Crewe on Saturday, has lifted some of the gloom that was beginning to settle at Brunton Park.

Team news…

Darren Sarll has hinted that changes could be made for tomorrow night, depending on the fitness of his players following the weekend's game.

One player that will be available for selection is centre-back Luke Wilkinson, having now served his three game suspension following his red card against Lincoln City.

View from both camps...

Stevenage boss, Darren Sarll...

“It is tough but we are only 1 club out of 72, so I know how difficult a job scheduling the fixtures is.

“I remember that first win of mine at Hartlepool. We took 26 that night and I will never forget that number or moment with the supporters.

“So all of that makes the task a little bit harder but it is nothing we can't overcome.”

Carlisle boss, Keith Curle…

“We needed the win and it will be a big boost for the confidence within the group. Throughout this difficult run the changing room has stayed solid and kept the belief in how we want to do things.

“People will now be saying that I’ve got to play the same team on Tuesday night, but that won’t be decided until I’ve watched Stevenage. There are some players who have put a real shift in and there are others who I know can do a job, depending on the system we play."

Previous meetings...

Brunton Park certainly hasn’t been the most welcoming of away grounds for Stevenage – four defeats, two draws and just one win – make for a miserable record up in Cumbria.

Taking home games into account, the record doesn’t get much better. Just four wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats leaves no doubt about which side has had the better of things over the years.

Boro will be looking for a first victory against Carlisle since 2015, when Dean Parrett struck the only goal at the Lamex Stadium to secure a Sky Bet League Two play-off spot under Graham Westley.

REPORT: Stevenage pick up three points in Carlisle

A huge three points for Boro on the road..

Stevenage came away from Brunton Park with a win for the first time in 12 years, thanks to a resilient display, capped off with second half goals from Ben Kennedy and Tom Pett.

It was an almost perfect away performance from Darren Sarll’s side to come away 2-0 winners, helped a little by the unfortunate Carlisle goalkeeper, Shamal George.

Kennedy’s opener came after the keeper fumbled Joe Martin’s corner, leaving the attacker with a welcome tap-in to put Stevenage ahead. Minutes later it was 2-0 as George failed to keep out Tom Pett’s header – an early second half blitz that settled the game.

Darren Sarll named an unchanged starting XI following the win at home to Morecambe on Saturday – a strong show of support for Terence Vancooten in particular with Luke Wilkinson available again after serving his suspension.

There were few chances for either side during the first half, Carlisle looking dangerous early on with the lively Nicky Adams causing problems from out wide. Despite that, Joe Fryer was never tested in goal.

Stevenage’s best chance of the first half came after Joe Martin made strides into the box down the left, before pulling it back for Kennedy whose shot was well saved and out for a corner.

Boro found themselves in good positions during the opening 45 minutes, just that final ball or decision not quite on the money.

Once the two goals went in early in the second half, Carlisle rallied but rarely threatened, the Stevenage backline and midfield shutting down any real chances for the home side.

Stevenage managed the rest of the game and it was deep into the eight minutes of added time when Joe Fryer made his first save of the game - a fantastic reaction stop from close range to maintain his clean sheet and see out the win.

The win moves Boro up to sixth place and see’s Boro record back-to-back wins ahead of Saturday’s home game against Port Vale.
