Boro nearly made the initial breakthrough on two minutes as a long kick forward from Jamie Cumming evaded everyone, falling to the feet of Elliott List whose effort was saved well by the alert Richard O'Donnell, with the ball bouncing off the top of the crossbar and away for a corner.
Chris Lines caused trouble with a free-kick on 11 minutes, whipping a delightful ball into the penalty area which was headed to safety by Niall Canavan.
Luke Norris headed Boro in front on 15 minutes, converting from a Chris Lines corner and beating O'Donnell from close range with power for his eighth goal of the season.

The second-half commenced and Kian Scales had the first chance, blazing a speculative volley from distance over Cumming's bar.
The contest became scrappy in the second-half, with both teams committing a number of fouls which inevitably slowed the game down.
Substitute Billy Clarke almost made an instant impact off the bench on 62 minutes, latching onto Donaldson's knockdown but firing just wide of Cumming's left post.

The visitors nearly found themselves in front on 72 minutes, as a weak Charles Vernam volley trickled into the path of an unmarked Olly Crankshaw, who couldn't reach the ball before rolling out for a goal-kick.
The game was there for the taking, as both teams came close with several opportunities but the game petered out into a draw, with Alex Revell's side extending their unbeaten run to twelve, Boro's longest unbeaten run in the EFL.
